Boo! It's a Happy Halloween Banner!
Time for a brand new post about a brand new project! Time for a little SPoOkY fun!
Look what I started with. I just brought ALL my remaining Halloween items in to play.
I started with several papers in brown tones, oranges and a bit of Tim Holtz thrown in along with a bit of graph paper. No skeletons, No zombies. I had about 2 1/2 feet of flocked white spider web ribbon, orange acrylic paint, chalk inks, brads, ribbons, fancy buttons, a couple plastic spider rings, some Funk and Wagnalls dictionary word pages and an extra Happy Halloween ATC card I made this month for a swap. I am not a big fan of Halloween which is why this banner is only 3 pennants wide (Boo) instead of 6 (Spooky) or 14 (Happy Halloween). I wanted to make a happy party banner with a positive twist. I did not buy a single thing. You know me, I say let's use what we have! :D My Fall and Halloween stash is now officially super LOW. And that's a fabulous thing!
Now, look what I created! A sweet shabby-chic grungy-lumpy decor delight for Halloween! Click on any photo to enlarge it to see details.
Let's take a peek at the pennants one by one. Here is the B
You can see the Tim Holtz photo strip and clock papers. Crumpled for texture and fun. Vintage shell buttons and an old gold leaf shank button too. Several layers of paper as well as two seasonally appropriate dictionary words. Spider ring in the web ribbon, walnut stain and glimmer mist and chalk ink. Fancy large orange brad says You and Me.
Now the middle pennant O comes next:
This one features the ATC card I mentioned earlier complete with rubber stamping, silver heat embossing, twine, another fancy orange brad that says Best Friends. Spritz on more Glimmer Mist spray and inking. I just had to include that jumbo vintage 1930s lightening look coat button. I secured it with a double dose of ribbon to keep it in place. More spooky dictionary wording, inking, and a little hang tag that reads Remember This!
And last but not least the other O pennant:
Layer, layer, layer those base papers. More spiderweb. Another spider. I pleated the word Metropolitain under a small bottlecap paper and accented the vertical areas with tiny photo strips --all from Tim Holtz. And again some more creepy dictionary wording (but not too frightening.) Oh yeah, I used up half a bottle of silver sparkle clear nail polish around my BOO lettering to add a little sheen and micro glitter. Yes, I have other paper crafting products that do the same thing but honestly, I just wanted to use that darn polish UP and toss it. So I did!
I wanted a decoration that focused on friendships, the good times, colors and festive aspects of the Halloween event with just a hint of spooky. Nothing too frightening or creepy. I would say I got a rustic seasonal banner that does just that!!
