Starting in my scraproom I really need to go through the closet and get rid of the excess. I have a lot of younger kid projects and craft items that can be donated to the school for their pre-K and Kindergarten classes. Once I get the closet purged then I'll be able to better organize my room and closet.

The next major area that I really need to purge is the den closet. I don't even know what is in there anymore....just know that it's overflowing. Need to go through the games and younger kid videos too. Purge those and then go through old boxes of items that have been waiting to be gone through and put in there "out of sight out of mind".

Those are the first two purge areas that I'll be working on. The scraproom closet and the den closet. Thanks Rock for the challenge!

I got alot of scrapbook stuff for christmas so I gave my daughter my decorative scissors, alot of pens and markers I don't use, for her classroom.(she's a teacher). I'm selling on ebay- paper I thought I had to have and never used, templates, letter templates, sizzix I won't use and moving my library of books to the family room to make more room on my bookshelves for scrapbook stuff. I received a new tool tote for Christmas, and am going thru all my things to purge for an upcoming organizing workshop. After the workshop, I am going to donate all purged items that I no longer "love", to a local Children's hospice.

I'm purging! I started in my scrapping area and keep going through my things as I make page kits and getting rid of those things I don't love. What a feeling! I got rid of a frame kit that I will not be using, used some holiday stickers on envelopes to mail at the end of December. Some RAK's and swaps are on their way out the door too. Next to go, some toys but don't tell the boys ;) Thanks Rock!

This is a wonderful challenge and actually, it goes right along with "the urge to purge" that I have been feeling of late.

For myself, I will be starting with our main bathroom, as it is small enough to complete in a day, yet large enough that I will have accomplished something significant by the end of the day :). From there, I will probably head into the kitchen, which is the the second largest room in our home and is packed full of enough stuff to supply two more households!

My Thanks to Angie Pedersen, who shared your challenge in her blog and to you, Rockester, for creating it.

May 2007 be a year of blessings for you and yours!

Such a great idea. Found you through Angie P.'s post too. So same question I asked at her site...how? For me as a writer, teacher, scrapper, and mom, I have SO MUCH STUFF...particularly papers, journals, binders, etc. Where does a girl begin with that kind of stuff? Generally I'm a pretty organized person but can't seem to part with anything related to writing or teaching. Any ideas?
Anonymous said…
I,too, found you through Angie P's blog and love this challenge! It was already in my planner to get BUSY! I have a spare room our daughter moved out of [only to go to her "old toy room"] but left some of her little girl stuff behind...she's too old now to have American irl dolls in her room...but doesn't want to get rid of them! It is to be my very own scrap studio. This is the room where I will start so that I can move my "scrap stash" from the dungeon basement...as I move my stash, I will be purging all that I thought I needed but haven't used so that I have a clutter free and workable studio!

Good luck to everyone in this challenge!

The old phrase "Why wait till the New Year' has been put into use this week. I have purged through several containers in my scrapbooking and have put together 24 baggies of items that I have Swapped out with another scrapbooking group.

Today I will be purging our main bath's linen closet, getting rid of pattern sheets that my children have really out grown since two are married and one a senior in high school. LOL

Third purge will be the medicine cabinet. Need to get rid of a bunch of stuff in there.
I will be purging my walk in closet. since i have a small apartment, this closet is the only one and is the catch-all for everything. i have clothes, books, old memorabilia i'm not sure why i'm saving and it's time to go!

we're having a big yard sale this summer, so everything will be put in boxes, labled, and put in the basement for the yardsale, and out of my way!

OK, I'm in!!
I only have a closet about 40 inches wide so I need to keep on top of things. So, I went thru my Iris carts and found stuff I knew I had but never used. I got rid of stamps, maybe about 15 of them, then I got rid on some templates. I never used them. There were about 7 of these. They are the bigger ones just taking up space. Then I went thru ALL my stickers! That was fun, haha!. I so slimmed my PSB that its not even funny. I feel as though I have lost a ton of weight!
Then were a bunch of other scrapbook related items i got rid of. All of this went to my niece. She is into scrapping and I thought she would like the stuff.
Now on to the basement. I have been trying to get rid of the moving pads we purchased for our move to Milwaukee about 2 years ago. No one wanted them, so today I took them all to the Salvation Army. I will just write it off. What a relief!! Then I even cleaned my closet. Another relief!! I am happy now. Now I have to get rid of some moving boxes. I don't want them anymore!
Well, good luck to all you purgers!! Have fun!

Well this "Great Purge" comes at the right time for me and my family. We will be moving at the end of January into a bigger place. So my big purge will be a month long purge, lol. I will be going through all our stuff that we do not use or need and take them to the local Salvation Army. I am having my teens go through their stuff so as they are not hording old school papers.

As for my scrapbooking room, I do not have a lot of supplies on hand as I am a use as you go type of person. I have a whole lot of tools but papers, embellishments, and stickers, very limited. I pretty much buy per project and then what ever is left I try to make sure I can use in my other scrapbooks.

Thanks for the challenge Rock!

I recently went through my supplies, but I know I can already get rid of more. I've made a decision to not buy anything for any craft. I'll buy glue and tape, but I won't buy the newest or coolest things. I have 2 kids ages 10 and 7 who are starting to scrapbook, but I just plan on sharing my supplies with them. I'll start with my scrapbooking/rubber stamping area then move on to the other craft areas.

I am starting with my kids clothes. They got a ton for Christmas and need to donate to kids that could use it. Then I think I will move on to my scrapbook room, boy do I need to do this.

Following FlyLady's decluttering advice has helped me tremendously over the last few years. It's much easier for me to let go of things now!

I've got a few areas to work on:

~donate the kids' toys that I removed from their rooms before Christmas to make room for the new stuff

~sorting through the girls' clothes and donating some of them, organizing the rest

~re-organize the garage, which shouldn't be too hard because there are just a few things out of place

~and finally...scrap stuff...I haven't scrapped in over two years, and I moved to a new house in that time frame. My stuff is all stored in a closet under the stairs, and I've got to figure out where I can make a "scrap space" in my house and then go through all the stuff! It's going to be the biggest project of all the things I need to do, but I'm looking forward to it...it'll be fun to go through everything again, and I'll purge some stuff and organize the rest so I can start scrapping again! I've decided it'll be better for me to be more of a buy-as-you-go type of scrapper

I've been in nursing school for the last two years and I'm finished now, so I'm looking forward to getting my life back in order and having some time for hobbies again!

Ok, went through some Christmas decorations when I was putting them away. As I took them up to the attic I took down some things to go through, or should I say THREW! Kept my busy and my trash man happy, that's for sure!

I did it too today! Spent 2 hours finding my top of my scrapbook desk! Now tomorrow I will work on the two bookcases! Thanks for putting a fire under me!

Your note inspired me to start purging again and REALLY get my room clean. It's been the dumping ground for 4.5 years, I get it clean and then something happens and we dump the junk in there and then I mess up the scrappin'/stampin' areas. I've already got a small box of to give away/sell stuff and will work each day a little to cull through everything. I think it's good to go through our stuff at least once a year and purge. Thanks for the push

I'm back and so glad I've started purging before the new year. I always get in a cleaning and organizing frenzy around this time of year and you gave me the push to start early. So far my daughter and I have redone all the kitchen cabinets and drawers and the hall linen closet. Have to figure out what to tackle next...but this is fun!

I'm purging worry...worrying about my 20 yearold daughter and her one year old son. I raised her did my best, God can take care of her better than I can. Negative worry robs me of energy...energy I need to scrapbook in my organized room. I've already purged my old scrapbook stuff, hall closests, my own closet and kids hand me down and out of season stuff. One more scan of the Chrsitmas decorations and my hard drive and I'm purged out!
Anonymous said…
I have 2 bedrooms upstairs, one is a storage room (seasonal, christmas, seldom used things and just junk) and the other is my craft room. I will be going through everything in the storage room, getting rid off alot, I will be trading the two rooms around. The storage room is larger. Thank you for the challenge!

I started in my scraproom and gave away an inch of patterned paper and some assorted embellishments to a new scrapper. I still have more to git rid of in there....
Big Major Purge in the living room, it is currently empty and being painted and re-carpeted. Only the items we love are going back into that room, the rest is currently in my garage and free to a good home. Anyone need a set of turquoise reclining couches with a matching recliner? Coffee table? End table? Lamp that needs a few small repairs?
Next is the kids rooms..... Muhuhuhahahahahah

I'm gonna purge lots! I went through my pp earlier this year and purged, time to do reorganise the rest of the "stuff". I also need to MOVE the purged stuff outta here! I have it boxed up waiting to go on ebay and take to my friends for her kids crafting sessions. I plan on just giving her the box of pp and then anything else I find for them can be another box of goodies!

My closet will be another area I purge this year, so much in there I don't wear. 2006 was a big turnaround and I MADE myself buy one new thing a month, even if it was just undies or socks, this was a big thing as I hate clothes shopping. This is something I definatly want to continue in 2007. My tastes have changed considerably and its not such a chore anymore. I wouldn't say I enjoy it but its definately not a hate thing anymore.

still working on living more with simplicity.

This is exactly what I need! Having lost my MIL last year and cleaning out her house and losing both my parents this year and cleaning out their house, I have come to realize that you don't need to keep everything!! My goal is to purge, purge, purge so that my kids will not have to go through what I have endured. My other goal is to organize what I don't purge so I'll be able to find and use what I feel is worth keeping. Thanks for the challenge, Rock!

I'm headed everywhere I can purge this weekend, including my clothes closet, laundry room, scrap area, attic and paper basket. I've set up a list of tasks to accomplish before I'm back to work. It's a great feeling when you get to a point when the purging is less and less. I'm there so most of my tasks will be quick and easy. Work one area at a time for a few minutes, and move on. Set up a few good new organizational things so next time makes it a little less challanging to "put it all away". And have fun with it, I know I will. Thanks for the Challange Rock!!!

I've decided to purge an entertainment unit out of my studio and replace it with a counter height unit with 12 13x21" drawers. So, starting tonight I'm working on purging and redefining my space to make it all work more efficiently and ergonomically.

I have already gone through my husband's closet and sent two large trash bags of shirts to the clothing closet at the hospital where my daughter works. Tomorrow we are going to go through our kitchen cabinets and purge the items that we no longer use.
Next week, I will start going through my scrapbook paper and share some of the paper with my dil. After that, I will work on my closet - which needs lots of reorganization and purging.

I started today, did three drawers in the main bathroom, both sock drawers, and part of the Christmas decorations. Filled three lg bags for the trash can and four boxes for our Church yard sale next spring. Will have to store that stuff at the church. Will work on more areas tomorrow. This is a great idea. Even am getting some help from my husband.

Ok here goes, I started earlier in the week with the main parts of the house, I purged old makeup, cologne from past Christmas presents, hair things I never use, old razors, etc. from our bathroom, these things went to the trash.

From our bedroom closets all unused clothing went to charity. The living room was completely rearranged and there wasn't really anything in there to purge but the crafting table was taken down and the supplies taken to the craft room. Kitchen and dining room cleaned and stuff much stuff thrown away. I came across a few bolts of material left over from the days of working in a cap factory these I gave to a friend who sews.

Then it was on to the craft room. This was the big one, you see my mother died in Oct. 05 and she was a big crafter. She scrapbooked, sewed, embroideried, made quilts, did hand knitting, crocheting, she also had a few knitting machines. In her spare time she worked on computer graphics for embroidery machine patterns, homemade cards and scrapbooking. Needless to say she had supplies everywhere and one of the biggest rooms ever to work in. I inherited the majority of this as my sister does little to no crafts. At the time of going through this I kept virtually everything as I could not stand to part with anything that had belonged to my mother. We had for several years had weekly craft nights at her house and it seemed everything had meaning to me. Well I have a wonderful husband and a pretty big craft room myself but as you can imagine my space was running over with a lot of stuff I don't even use and never will. This past week has been spent going through and being really tough about what I will and will not use. My mother would not expect me to have a room I can't even use because I have her stuff sitting everywhere. Long story short I through away trash, organized pictures (in which I also inherited when my dad remarried) and gave away a lot of craft stuff to my mom's sister. My room is now managable and I am expecting to actually scrapbook this year even if some will be done through tears of missing that special craft partner, teacher, encourager and friend my mother.

Thanks Rock for inspiring me to push through the paralisis of being overwhelmed with too much stuff.

It's coming up on 10AM Pacific time and this morning I've cleaned out 3 drawers of our coffee table and cleared/cleaned out the side table next to the couch as well. Last night I cleared the papers from the corner of my desk and will be purging my old fax/phone today (gotta find where the electronics recycling center is).

I will be starting in computer/scraproom, working my way thru the entire house, including kids rooms, I will be getting rid of everything from junk to clothes to small, untouched items ( I have a rule if it isn't touched for 3 months straight out it goes). I will make my way thru 10 rooms and 3 closets! LOOK OUT GOODWILL, here I come! I will also at this time be making any repairs to rooms, like patch nail holes, touch up painteing (do this once a year hate nicks in my woodwork) shampooing carpet and of course reorganizing! I will be doing major work to my kitchen so that room will be last, also becuz it is my water source, always last to be cleaned!

I have to be honest, I began my purge the day after Christmas. My gift to "me". I thought hey why wait till after Christmas to begin when I can give myself the gift of having a more organized life and "calmer" me earlier. So, I have been purging... Each day I give myself one focused task to do that can be used in any area of my life. One day, I purged all of the closets in the house. Didn't get into the real nitty gritty details, just simply went through and picked out items that we don't wear, outgrown, worn out, etc. Minimized the problem so to speak. I began with thinking I could come up with a bag and ended up taking 3 bags to the local thrift shop. I couldn't believe how much space I cleared out with just that! I made one rule, if it wasn't something that was to be worn then it didn't belong there. Closets are made for storage of appropriate items, not all the other stuff that got thrown in there including unloved clothing. Now I'm doing the same thing room by room with other areas
working one room a day. My tip: first completely cleansweep each room removing anything that doesn't belong there. I actually looked for excuses to get rid of stuff (which is SO unlike me! LOL) Then, designate a box for each room and put anything that didn't belong in that room in the box to go through. Anything that can be trashed can be done there. DON'T PUT IT IN THE BOX! Yes, my boxes are big, but now I have everything in ONE place, I'm not distracted by anything else in the room, and I'm able to focus on the job at task. Each day, I am going through my boxes--making a rule to only handle an item one time. So far, my plan is working. It may not be the most efficient way, but it's a comforting way for me when I sometimes want to cling to the emotional end of keeping STUFF. I'm really tired of living a life of clutter. A new year and new me is here. I'm welcoming it with open arms. I love this challenge!

What a good idea!

I started in the boys room the other day, and took out TEN bags of clothes. the worst about that is that I still have four hampers of laundry in the laundry room, most of which is theirs! How did 3 boys accumulate so much clothing? It's no wonder they can't keep it all put away neatly. I still have some work to do in there, then I will be moving on to my dining room, which is where all my scrapbooking supplies are as well.

On Saturday 12/30 I purged/organized a 66 quart storage container that hadn't been opened in about a year. I was able to get rid of a ton of stuff, make a pile of items for eBay/sale/donation AND found a pair of diamond stud earrings I'd been looking for since a trip to my parents (I'm unclear on how they got in the tub).

I just made another big purge! 106 #10 envelopes of unmounted rubberstamps - most I've never used! That's about 350-400 images, maybe even more. I kept images (backgrounds, geometics, Christmas and Halloween) that I'm likely to use or my little one can use when he's older, but I have boxed up about 75% of the collection and posted it for sale on Craigs List and our parents' club marketplace.

My garage!!
In Phoenix we don't have basements and we can't store anything in our attics because of the heat... so that leaves the garage. Guess what? Our cars don't fit in the garage! Soooo, I am determined to do some major purging in the garage and make room for our van!!
Wish me success!

Thanks for this challenge! I have been purging nonstop since the beginning of December (my daughter's birthday). LOL I have purged the linen closet and donated many sheet sets to the local domestic violence shelter, and towels to the local humane society. I have purged most of the kids' toys and donated many to the DV shelter, and some to the local library. Books were also purged and many were dispersed to the dentist office, the library, the school, and the shelter. I am purging through my holiday totes today and those items will go to the Salvation Army, and the kids old bikes will go to the DV shelter as well. We purge through the clothes often, but I need to do a "deep" purge after the holidays, and take the usable clothing to the shelter, and give the rest to the humane society to use as rags!

I haven't finished purging through my scrap stuff yet, but I think that's an ongoing thing still. I have been gifting many things to my school, for the craft area and the kinder classes, and stickers and such have been going to the kids for their scrapbooks and art. I still need to go through the stamps and inks, etc. -- need to see what works, what doesn't, what I'll use and what I won't. LOL I did find a box of papers I had been searching for, so that was a pleasant outcome! :) And thanks to a new photosmart all-in-one Christmas present, I have already purged my desktop and surrounding office area! What a difference to see all that usable space!

Thanks again, Rock, for this awesome challenge. I hope to do more in the next few days before returning to work!

Before Christmas a lot of stuff got stashed in my bedroom/craft area and in our office. I am working on returning those rooms to their normal functions. I have dumped 2 boxes of recycling so far. In the bathroom, I have a bag of old expired medicines bagged up to go to the pharmacy. I have also been tossing socks since 3/4 of us got new socks for Christmas -- out go the threadbare ones to make room for the new ones.

I am also planning to purge in the freezer. I hope to make as many of our meals for January as I can with supplies that we already have on hand.
Lori I love that mini challenge of tossing out old socks. Most of us got socks for the holidays....yes time to toss the old ones... And do the rest of the various underclothing as well!

I started this in November so that I could get into my scrap room before Christmas in order to wrap presents. It took me 2 weeks, but I got it done!!! I am now working on the kitchen. With a couple cabnets a day I will get there, I am sick of the "stuff" that I push around from cubboard to cubboard. I was amazed tonight what I threw out or put into the goodwill box just out of those 3 cubboards. I have a couple of empty shelves too!

I have been so inspired by your article about not hoarding scrapping supplies..it has totally changed my focus! I'm taking a challenge to not buy any scrapping supplies until I've scrapped 100 pages with what I already have!
Thanks so much for all your inspiration! And again, I am so happy to find your new blog address!! Hugs!!

I took a good look at patterned papers I had, mostly from slabs. I have purged the ones I don't love.

While I was indexing some new stamps, I also went through my collection and purged there also. Funny but I found I could create easier after that. I guess I knew what I had and was excited about the beautiful items I kept.

Oh and while putting away this year's holiday decorations - anything I didn't put out is going out the door!

I started in my bedroom and cleaned some of the junk off my dresser.
Today I'll work on the piles near the bed.
I got rid of lots of papers and trash.
We get a new bigger trash can on Monday as we're getting ready to move and no matter how much I recycle, I can't get thru the two weeks between pickups here. HOPEFULLY this will help in our cleaning for our move in July.
Thanks for getting the encouragement to get going on our move!

I have been on a purging frenzy. My purge actually started right before Christmas. So far, I have cleaned out the kids bedrooms, DH and I's room, the toy room, the living room, and the laundry roon (aka junk drawer central), and my pantry. I am working on my scrapbook room and saving the best for last ... the kitchen.

So far, I have gotten rid of FOUR boxes of toys, 3 boxes of books (1 adult, 2 children), 3 garbage bags of childrens clothing, 2 garbage bags of adult clothing, 3 boxes of accessories and misc household items (belts, shoes, knick knacks, frames, etc), 19 packs of Jolie's and Paper bliss, and 24 sheets of stickers.

I donated the scrapbook supplies to a local girlscout troop, and the rest went to Goodwill. My house feels so much less cluttered - it is amazing!

Thanks for the encouragement to purge!

I "purged" last spring until it hurt. I cleaned out and cleaned out. I took about 6-8 leaf bag size bags to the Community Resourse Center and then the back of my car (Outback Wagon) full of boxes. I cleaned out a storage building that had my Christmas stuff, yard sale stuff, and my Dad's stuff. He passed away in Oct. '05. When I started to decorate for the holidays this year I discovered I had "purged" almost all of my decorations. I found some under the bed that I had missed. I decided to put up the "big" tree. I have a 2 ft. fiber optic and a 32" artificial (the big tree). It took about 15 minutes to decorate and undecorate this year. This week I started again. I have gotten another leaf bag of clothes and one of the large Rubbermaid containers full out of one closet, and close to 40 items on hangers ready to go. Will start on drawers today. I have so many clothes that I had put a clothes hanging rod inside of the bathtub in our space bathroom to hold them with storage boxes in the tub. I'm on my way now to deliver a plant stand and plants out of the kitchen to my daughter and will be taking more plants to church Sunday to find homes for them. Also, am donating a box of scrapbooking extras to the childrens class at church. Next week will work on the kitchen cabinets. WOW! I'm on a roll!

Thank you Rock for doing this. With your encouragement I have almost finished purging my entire house. I can now fit two cars in my garage and I can open my front hall closet without having to jump back for fear that something might fall on me. These are just two examples of my purging. In one week my husband and I have done the whole house and garage except for my craft area, doing that this weekend. Thank you, thank you, thank you. This was just the kick in the rear that we needed.

Things I have purged already:
kids clothes
infant carseat (I recently read that you need to replace them every 4-5 years, so when we need another we'll get another)
infant bedding
stuffed animals (this was such a triumph, as I am the real collector of soft toys around here and it's hard for me to let go of them...)

Things to fling next:
my clothes (four drawers full of what exactly? NO ONE KNOWS)
my scrap stuff (especially paper, I have way more than I need or will use - I'm going to try to sell some cheap on craigslist)

Thanks once again, Rock! Right on target, as usual.

I had started this project this summer, when I moved my scraparea to another room with all the other desks, etc. But the challenge gave me new incentive to purge my scrap supplies. My aunt and I are doing a crop/craft fundraiser for a friend of ours, and I put together paper bag book kits for 33 using papers from my stash, and also make and takes for small stamped 2007 calendars that the only thing I bought were the calendars at less than .20 each. My project this week is to use up more cardstock, etc to make 3x3 sticky note covers and Jr legal pad covers, while not buying more paper. I also purged the laundry area and the kitchen overflow in the basement, throwing away all the old appliances that don't work quite right, and my husband was going to "take a look at" years ago. Next project- my closet!!

I purged the entire house!!!! We are moving cross country in three weeks and have been purging every room. DS's & DH have also been purging!!! Have a pile for a rummage sale, and trashed alot. House is really looking good. I will purge the rest of my scrapbooking stuff once we are at our final destination as I have alot of on line friends in the area we are moving to and will be sharing my supplies with them. It does feel great to be getting rid of the clutter. I also vow not to allow the new house get cluttered. Want to stop it before it starts. Thanks for the motivation.

Hi, I'm making headway on getting organized and filling boxes with stuff to to go the thrift store or to sell on e-bay ( homeschool stuff) If I can get DH to help me figure out e-bay..lol. He will have to as I load up the middle room with all that stuff. SO thank you for reminding us that we need to un clutter and get on with our life... living it to the fullest with less STUFF. I already purged some things getting ready to do the Christmas sewing. I found patterns I will never use. I'm starting with purging some Christmas ornaments. I realized I wasn't even putting 1/2 of the ornaments on the tree and my ornament boxes are full! Then I'm I'm going to purge some games to make room for the ones the kids got at Christmas. After that, I'm going to look through my scrapping stickers and get rid of old and out dated and bring them to a cropping party later in January.

Thanks for the challenge Rock as I am a person who hoards. I find it hard to get rid of things as I always think that "SOMEDAY" they will come in handy. Get that from my mom who lived through the Depression. So far this month, I have gone through my DH's workbench and organized and purged tools that he had purchased duplicates of not knowing he had them. I also went through our Christmas ornaments and freecycled 1 whole box. I got rid of 5 blankets/comforters and a few pillows out of our linen closet (with a few more to go). Also am getting ready to list kids coats, adult coats, hats, gloves, boots, shoes, shirts, pants, socks, bras, sweatshirts, panties, a total of 7 large bins full on freecycle. In my craft room, I purged 12 boxes that were empty to someone who could use them in her scraproom for storage of papers. I am still going through my scraproom but have a large box ready to donate to my kids' school for their programs. I am enjoying the freedom that comes with watching the boxes and boxes (and boxes and boxes and boxes....) of stuff walk out the door and knowing that it is that much less that I have to keep organized. I have even found some things that belong to my parents and sent them back to their house along with a trash bag full of hangers to them that I don't like/use and a whole trashbag to freecycle. There is a lot to go but I hope that I am showing my children that "things" are not important and that we don't "need" a lot but eachother, basic necessities, love and of course, some scrap stuff!!!!

I am a pack rat (from a long line of pack rats, so I come by it honestly) so this is one of the areas I struggle with. However...

I did manage to clear out 3 small bags of clothes from my kids' closets; I re-organized my scrapbook embellishments and purged the old containers; I sifted through a pile of old magazines pulling out only articles I was confident I would use (and then filing them accordingly) and recycling the rest.

I also tend to hang-on to styling products that I maybe used a couple times and then either changed my hair style or found something I like better. I finally cleared out that bin and now I can use it to store more important things, like the clean sheets that have been sitting in a laundry basket for months because I don't have a linen closet.

Thanks for getting me moving!

Yesterday I went though the Christmas stuff as we were packing it away and I purged quite a few things - some stuffed Christmas teddies, some old ornaments and decorations, some stockings (how did we get so many?), and other odds and ends. Then I went into the garage and put a bunch of stuff aside to take to Value Village or Freecycle - videos and DVDs, books, clothes, bedding, toys, some golf stuff - you name it, I'm getting rid of it. Also set some stuff aside for the dump!
I finally purged my old computer that died more than 6 weeks ago!
And purged some old ornaments that were no longer "loved" as I took the tree down today.
Working on purging old albums and grouping photos for new albums to be made this year.

I need a challenge like this EVERY month! I'm such a packrat that it effects just about everything in my life. . .

Don't laugh but I started purging condiments from my refrigerator. Some were long expired (UGH!) and others had no date and who knows how long they've been there! ALL GONE! From now on they will get a date written in permanent marker BEFORE they go on the fridge. Next out with canned goods stashed way back in my kitchen shelves - some long expired also. ALL NEW ones are also going to have the date purchased on them if there are no expiration dates on the can. Extra Sharpies in the kitchen drawers from now on!

Next onto the EMAIL. I had literally thousands of emails saved inbox, folders etc. going back YEARS! Like I was really going to go back and read them! Most were from Yahoo groups which are archived online anyway, what was I thinking!

Next, drawers, closets, toys, and finally the final frontier - the basement! This should keep me busy until next year!!

making good progress in getting rid of the stuff I don't use or need. Slowing down now because I'm having to work 12 hour shifts and hardly have time to sleep. Scrap room is looking much better, have thrown away a lot of stuff and have a box for give away to take to our scrap night this Friday.

I've been decluttering in different areas around my house this past week. While my tea water was heating and steeping I cleaned out my tea drawer. We had tea that I didn't like for so long- I think I've been packing it around since 2003. I also sat down and went through all my scrapbooking pens and gave away (to a new scrapbooker) about 50+. I also decided to get rid of some homeschooling stuff I haven't used and dont'really want to use. I put it on freecycle and it was spoken for within moments. I just plan on taking things one little area at a time so I don't get overwhelmed at the big picture. I've also completed 4 pages in one of my scrapbooks and will also be taking baby steps with that!

I started purging to ebay just before the new year hit and so far I have listed 95 auctions and made almost $400.00!! I am getting myself a cricut this weekend as a reward to myself! I still have more to list but this is feeling pretty darn good!

After being on vacation for 10 days, I decided that I can live with much less stuff! So we have been purging since our return. My goal is to have empty space in every room so that we can enjoy the things that we love.

More purging - this time magazines. I figured the decorating and fashion ones are out of date and I have recipe books galore. They all went to recycle bin.

With my stash of papercrafts magazines I bit the bullet and made an arbitrary 2-year cut off. I gifted the old ones. They do repeat topics and there's new techniques and new products featured all the time.

I am still in the purging mode. I have been going through all of the files that have we have accumulated. My DH has been shredding lots of old papers. I have always kept way too much. I am only keeping what I might need for income tax reasons from each year. I also have gone through lots of cards and enevelopes that I have accumulatd. Most of them went into a box to give away. In addition, I just trashed some old photo albumns that weren't acid free. I love seeing all the room in my office and the closets. Thanks for the motivation.

I have been trying to purge everywhere I can. I moved about 9 mo. ago (Orlando to Atlanta) and since we are living with house mates (to save $ to buy a house) I don't have a space of my own cept our SMALL bedroom and a corner of a room for the computer desk, our household items are in storage.

I started my purging my sb stuff old mags, idea books and supplies. now I am working on photos those out of focus ones and doubles (I stopped getting doubles and went digital so I print as I go)I have been SBing more when I am off of work and signed up for 4 CROPS this month to get them out of boxes and into albums (I made power lay-outs(CM) and it as helped me get things done and in albums 2007 I have a rocking 20pgs done got rid of 2 shoe boxes and since I had supplies I guess that was part of a "Purge" too!

I have also did a major purge of clothes and bath stuff (oh my out of date stuff) this past week.

I am starting as weather permits perging in storge unit 1 box at a time (I did ALOT before we moved and had a huge yard sale and donated a lot too)

Our house mates are doing the same and we together are planning on joining in on the community yard sale in March so far we have 8 boxes in the garage. My goal it to make enough for extra spending $ on our summer vac. I have taken books to the used book shop, earning $50; and the VHS, DVDs, CD's ect and earned another $50 plus a credit slip for $25. we decided to rent movies more and only get the ones for reference and specail movies we watch all the time to just relax.

So thank you for all those great ideas Rock and the folks that have blogged

I have gotten most of the rooms purged. Still have the office to finish. This is the worst room but I am slowely getting it done. My husband likes to keep all his stuff :) I took three boxes of papers and things to the garbage can all ready and have filed a lot of things. We can see part of the desk top now. I think if I can just manage one day a week working on a different area in the house I may be able to keep things in a little better order. thanks so much for the encourgament you have given us all to get in there and get it done.

While it took me a while, I finally joined in and it felt so good to get rid of things I haven't used in forever. I have just started with my Christmas decorations and filled up a 96 gallon trash can with broken ornaments, lights and very old decorations. I have a huge pile of things waiting by the door to go to Good will and a trunk partially full with baby items too. I'm getting ready to sell my house so I will be PURGING much!!!

Well I didn't have much energy to purge (I have fibro and CFIDS and am having a bad flare lately), but I got a burst of energy for a few hours and went through a rubbermaid tote full of papers that needed to be sorted and then shredded or filed. Then filled a box with old magazines and catalogs to trash or donate. Not as much as I'd like to do, but it is something!!

Hi Rock,

Between you & Flylady I've been on a "Flinging Frenzy". Purged the 12x12 papers, paper scraps and stickers. Grandson's toys & coloring books. On to the kitchen old spices and plastic containers. To the living room purge old magazines. Then into the bathroom for old cosmetics and toiletry items.

That feels GOOD! No regrets. Just call me a flingin' fool!

Rock, I have spent a lot of time in my new! scraproom (well it was playroom/guestroom but I decided that I needed a spot that was MINE so the toys got moved out and the rest of my craft things got moved in - I was already using the closet for storage of other hobby supplies). Anyway, I've been sorting though theme paper, and putting coordinating paper into zip bags in prep for making kits. I have been through about half of my theme paper and have almost an inch to go away, yay! I still have colored pattern paper and cardstock to do but I'm ready for it now. I've also sorted out stickers that go with the themes I've sorted and purged some of those too. If you would like some/all of it for the prize box, I'll package it up and send it to you when I'm finished - just let me know!

I have also gotten the front porch all sorted out (it's my freecycle holding area and garden stuff storage spot) and put an old freebie dresser into my garden cabinet to hold things.
The bedroom is the next big challenge. We did a big scoop and stuff before the inlaws arrived for Christmas, plus I just retired from the military and had to purchase pretty much a whole new wardrobe, so it's out with the uniforms and the things I'll never wear again. That's the project for this weekend.

My new year's resolution was to stay on top of this year's pictures (at least printing them out and getting kits done for them) and using up or passing on a lot of my stash. I'm trying the DW2007 calendar challenge and it's helping too - I have all the pictures printed out for what we've done so far this year, and I've done 15 pages to donate to www.scrapbooksforsoldiers.org and 7 for my album!
Take care!

My husband took time off during the holidays to remove a closet in our bedroom. It was a small closet but I had to organize the larger one first. I got rid of cloths I will never wear. Same with shoes. Now I have plenty of room in there.
I also went through all the Christmas stuff and got rid off faded lights, old ornaments and yucky garland. This left me with an empty container. Of course, this lead to more organizing, so I went to the basement and sorted all our audio/video and computer cables and connectors. These then went into the newly emptied container. Now I feel better.
I also re did my scrap closet to be more efficient. I am always looking for better ways to do this. Maybe cause its not so big. Anyway, I gave my niece many items I will not use. I even updated photos of my closet. Yippee!!
I get on a roll doing this stuff, so I headed for the kitchen and went through the "junk" drawer and cleaned out my cabinets. I also did the fridge.
Gotta start the year the right way ya know?

I moved in November, and have been purging while organizing my brand new space. I actually have an entire room for scrapping, sewing, and my office! Woohoo!!!! I cannot even begin to tell you how many things I've purged ~ at least 4 large boxes, plus uncounted trash bags, and still have more to go! Go, me!

I'm not sure if my last comment worked, had a problem logging in. I've been purging my patterned papers, old die cuts & stickers. Outside of scrapping, I've purged tons of clothes that are no longer worn by my family, hats & shoes. Everything will be going in lots on Ebay or donated to Salvation Army. Thanks for the challenge!

I purged a lot of 'junk' that I didn't need anymore....some misc. items that I thought that I'd use for memorabilia, and duplicates, I put into a box and sent them off to a good friend of mine that needed some scrappin' stuff. She so enjoyed getting them. I also made a box for a silent auction that we have at our retreats. The only other thing that I need to finish going through is my patterned paper. But other than that, I'm so happy with my new 'look' to my tiny scrapbook room and Rock, you're such an inspiration by having this group with such fine people!!! Thanks for all the help!!!

I have taking this purging challenge to work with me. I spent several hours today purging papers and files at work. I have been the librarian in this library for 2 1/2 years. The previous librarian left everything when she retired. She was a teacher and librarian for about 25 years. I have given away lots of posters and workbooks that she left. But, she also left all her old lesson plans, projects, budgets etc. I just chunked them all. Now I have room for my files. Last week I went through all the old equipment and inventoried it. It is ready to move to storage. Thanks Rock for the challege. It has been good for me.

During this challenge I went through MOST of my scrapbooking supplies, the bottom half of my closet, my tea drawer, and some computer files. I was able to give my sister, who just started scrapbooking- a bunch of paper, paper organizer, paper cutter, punches, alphabets, tape runner, pens, and various other scrapbooking supplies. She was thrilled. I was glad to get rid of some stuff. I organized all my paper in one place (rather than the 3 I had before) and I've been working on something scrapbook related everyday. I'm off to a great start!

Thanks Rock!

My "studio" incorporates scrapbooking on one side of the room and quilting on the other. I've now purged some of my quilting fabrics and still need to do more----have to make room for scrapping stuff!.....also did away with papers I no longer care for and stickers and ribbons that I can donate to a spec. ed. class that I volunteer for...just in time for Valentine's.....great mission, to purge!

I've taught elementary school for a1most 27 years, and I still have the handmade games and center activities that I made as part of course work (to use in my classroom) when I was in college in 1977-79. I also had a 3 inch notebook of ideas and samples of neat art ideas. I have a 34 year old daughter who recently decided to go back to school to become a teacher. Well...... I purged all those things and gave them to her. Some were in my storage room at school and some were here at home. She can use what she can and throw away what she doesn't want. That felt really good! I cleaned out one of the bathroom closets where we had put some items that were used to help take care of my father-in-law about 9 years ago when Hospice was involved. I dropped those things off at the house of a person who is involved with Hospice. While in that closet, I threw out all the thread bare towels and wash cloths, outdated medicines, and a bottle of dried out lotion. Then I was off to the spare bedroom. It's amazing how it has "collected" things that I didn't want to deal with like old magazines from years ago, clothes that are no longer being worn, old nonworking VCR, and other items. I sent the old magazines and clothes to the local Goodwill and trashed the old VCR. I didn't purge in my scrapbooking room because I don't have things in there organized yet. Slowly I'm getting there, and then I will get rid of some things! I still have more purging to do, but I'm soooo glad for what I've gotten done so far.

I love this challenge. I have gone through my dressers and got rid of summer clothes I didn't wear last year...4 garbage bags full...I also went through my winter clothes...even though this season isn't quite over...and purged itesm that I haven't worn and will never wear...3 bags full. Then I went into the bathroom medicine cabinet and put together 2 goodie bags to send to a couple people in Iraq tha I recentloy became an angel for...bandaids, shampoo, hairspray, deoderant. etc...lot of stuff that I bought duplicates of but never seem to use...so off to a good home they go. I also will be taking the bags of clothes to work for the annual garage sale we have for people with disabilities to raise money for christmas presents...
OMG!!! I have been purging everything! It is like the feeling I got when I was 'nesting' right before my daughter was born in '89! I am a MANIAC! I have been throwing away extra lotions, (you know, all those that SUPPOSEDLY remove all the wrinkles and make my skin so baby-butt soft?) And then, the books! Oh My! I have racked up $147 worth of credits at the used bookstore--and THAT doesn't count the books I've given away to the local library! And then there's my walk in closet! Oh Gosh! What a rush that was...I have away more clothes that i've worn in a month of Sundays!!! (and STILL I have tons). Just HOW in the world do we accumulate so much STUFFFFFFFFF? And THEN I got in my art studio (not where I scrapbook, mind you...) Just HOW in the HECK did I accumulate so many RIVER ROCKS??? What in the WORLD did i think I was going to do with those in my Collage & Mixed-Media Arts? you got me! I don't know either...THOSE will go to my neice who is 5 and LOVES rocks!!! boy will SHE be THRILLED!!! And ALL the instructions for PROJECTS!!! I don't have enough time in the WORLD (I'm already 45) to complete all of these... WHAT was I thinking? Geez....

I'm embarrased! and totally veclempt (?) at the thought of what I THOUGHT I could get accomplished? %$#%&#*$&(#$& HOW crazy!

But, my scrapbooking supplies are PRISTINE! My stamps are together, my tools, dies, ink pads, paints, rub-ons, templates, PAPERS... I am SO PROUD OF MYSELF! And it is all succinctly stored away in my beautiful Oak Computer Armoir! The best thing I ever did --even IF I broke a toe in the process (long story...email me if you want to hear it!)
I've given myself 2007 to get rid of ALL the unnecessary STUFF I've been blessed enough to collect...and, get this, I live with a minimalist...so I stay 'checked'... and the scray thing is this... IF it can happen to me, it can happen to ANYONE!!!
I can't WAIT to see what tomorrow, or next week or month brings! Those Goodwill people will love me--the trash guys won't!

Happy Purging everyone!

I've purged a bunch of rubber stamps. Some went to my niece, and more are going to consignment at the little stamp store I teach at.

Then I'm going through all the stuff I've been stashing places and putting it away in a permanent place. I really need more organization here, so I can find what I KNOW I have!

Wow, I purged all my stickers, it took me 6 hrs. I now have them all in large baggies and this week I will put them in order in binders. Gave some to my grandsons who scrap with me and some to the preschool I use to work at. Purged my craft closet and all is in see through containers and labled. Stamps and items I haven't used or thought I would not use again. Donated to our local senior center. Next is my paper stash.
Thanks, I am so glad that I came across your site.

Hi! I've been purging the dungeon of our home...the storage area of our basement! Last week I took some baby clothes that my son used to wear to a consignment store. He's 20! And.....for sentimental reasons I almost snatched the blue footie pajamas back! It was so hard! But...my storage area is ready for new shelves...now that my husband can get to the area! The garbage has been overflowing at the curb. My 14 year old daughter was beyond embarrased! Really, though, what a great feeling to walk into the area to get something off of the pantry shelves & not have to step over stuff!

I started with condensing my Christmas decoration collection by donating a ton of stuff to my husband's workplace & sending a few items I'd put away for my grown children to their home for them to deal with, lol! I've hit several areas in my home. A much needed clean-out of a utensil drawer in the kitchen, I removed all the linens from the blanket closet, pared down then used those space bags to cut the size in half. I have now started on a cabinet in my scrap room, I cleaned it out last year & got it organized but I have found over the last year I just don't use out of it like I thought I did so I am going to clear out several items I no longer need just taking up room. I have separated into catagories on my table all the items I will be keeping & storing into wide binders I designed last year to hold & organize all my embellishments. I have a large Priority box full of items already & still have several areas I have yet to go through so hopefully in the next few days I will have all done & will be ready to eBay & give away to my daughter who is now a scrapper & her girlfriends.

I think whatever profits I make from the cleanout I will put toward a drafting table to work on, it would be much more ergonomic for me especially since I suffered some lasting effects after a car accident last summer & can't sit with my head hung over a table for very long without having neck pain. Who knows, I might even get to scrap a little longer because of it~!

This was perfect timing for me since I want to move my stamp/scrap room to a smaller room. I needed to purge and downsize before I could begin the move.

So far I have a big pile for ebay sales, crop swaps/donations and then one for the elementary school art teacher.

I started with my stamps and got rid of several sets that I'll never use. I also got rid of a lot of samples from old convention swaps, then stickers, totes, journaling templates and so much other stuff that I haven't touched or used. I also got rid of old paints, that have gone bad, etc.

Then I started to organize my embellishments ... then sprained my ankle DOH!!! so I'll have to finish that later. But I have, as Rock suggested, layed out a spot for all the themes and seperated my supplies into those piles. I emptied my PSB of all the stickers I'll never use, and will now start putting all the themed stuff into those pages.

Lots to go, but a lot has been done. Yay me!!
I am purging alot! Moved into our current house 3 1/2 years ago (it's twice as big as the old house) and have run out of room! Basement is full. So the purge begins! 15 boxes of toys (boxes are 3x3x3feet big - from a 17" monitor) have been donated/freecycled/ebayed. 10 boxes of baby, children, and adult clothes have donated/freecycled/ebayed. VHS tapes, books, DVD's and CD's, household, maternity, baby items. All donated/freecycled/ebayed. Sold 3 scrapbooking totes and alot of outdated/non-used scrapbooking items on EBay. It feels good! My husband can now start creating "rooms" in our basement! With the items I sold, I made enough money to buy organizational bins, etc., for my scrapbooking stuff and take a trip to a convention and go to a CKU event!

I am new to the group. Joined in Nov. and read everything. I have been going throught every room and donated tons of clothing, toys and household items to the teen moms I work with. As for my scrapbooking supples...I took to the LSS and participate in the garage sales.

I love the site...keeps me motivated.

I am purging my scraproom and blessing my "collection" to others and a preschool- the kids love extra stickers and the staff love the additional supplies. Working on closets and dressers, one drawer at a time.

Rock,

I am so pleased to report that for the past two days, I haven't been on the computer. I really missed reading all the Scrapper's Challenge post but I wanted to purge some things. It took me two days but I went through my files and tossed old materials everything from bank statements, and receipts, to instructions for items I don't even own anymore. I even shredded all the paper. While this may not sound like a big deal, I have a newborn son and am just so excited that I actually completed a task. Thanks for the inspiration.

Wow! Thanks for doing this. It's inspirational. I redid my whole office to remove all my craft stuff which is now in the library in a corner dedicated to that. I'm the one who posted about the chinchilla, so I did get rid of the stuff she had damaged and switched her play area to a safer part of the house where she also can do less damage. Next step: weeding through the books and videos in the library to get rid of the chaff. I know there's a lot of stuff in there that I have no interest in reading again. Then I can have a group of shelves to augment the nice craft table Scott got me for Christmas! My office is now devoted to work (I'm a writer and dog trainer, as well as an animal rescue president) so I can focus, and I found so many things I forgot I had. It's like finding a huge mound of presents!

Still plugging away and ditching stuff I've had for tooooo many moves and years.
I've filled two big moving boxes with paper to go to the recycle center. Numerous plastic bags with other recycles. And a couple of bags of just trash. I'm still not a lot further really than when I started up here in my loft, but I am lighter...

AND as I told my DH it was like Christmas this week when I discovered all these overdyed cross stitch threads! I don't have to order too many of those for awhile. :D I even found $10 in my son's 3rd bday card... from 2004. (YIKES!) At least it was a bill and not a check!

Today is a day to attack the entry way and chip away at the craft room some more. If I'm going to get that schrank to fit my household goods without busting weight limit, I still have to purge purge purge! Again, you're great inspiration!
