The Makeup Drawer: It's a love-hate kind of thing.

Image
My makeup drawer needed help yesterday. Well actually it needed help LONG before that. But I just got fed up yesterday. You see I don't wear much makeup on a daily basis. I can get dolled up for a photo shoot or a public speaking event. But daily? I can't be bothered. I don't know if it is because I was raised on a farm until I was 12 and mom never had a ton of time for makeup back then either. (Later she became a beautician so go figure!) Or maybe it was because it was Oregon in the 70's when I hit my teen years and everything cosmetic was aloe vera this and avacado that. Those are good ingredients but I didn't feel compelled to put things on my face to wear that I was also seeing on my dinner plate and on my grandfathers sunburn. So now I am an adult and I do wear some makeup. But for some reason, I have accumulated a ton of suppplies. My makeup drawer overflows into the medicine cabinet and the hall linen closet. Maybe that has something to do with having a bea...

Cropping Party Games

Image
Cropping Party Games Because I have been a scrapper so long, I am often asked how to plan a crop or party. Sometimes I just say “Bring out the chocolate, call our scrapbooking buddies and it will instantly be a party!” But honestly it takes a little more planning than that. One of my favorite things to do is to share my stash in the form of prizes and giveaways. From fiber to gems to rubber stamps, if you come to my crops you usually get goodies!!! But usually you have to EARN them in the form of occasional crop games or contests. I have adapted some bridal and baby shower games to scrapbooking parties with success. And I have also adopted other games I have played at conventions and store crops. Here are a few games for scrapbooking parties that might help you plan your next get-together. Here are a few games to space out throughout the crop about an hour apart. At the beginning of the crop: Name Doodle Contest: Have markers of all kinds available (your Zig collection?) and blank name...

Design Stars ain't got nuttin' on me!

REDESIGN FOR UNDER $50.00 ! Here is my re-design (for under $50 !) of my son's room using items from around my home in other areas and $15 of black photo frames from Goodwill and Savers secondhand. Recycle and redesign with what you already own. Combine things and streamline. You can do this. :) I am not showing before pics because frankly I didn't take any but it was a typical teenage boy MESS. It was dusty and had lots of stacked messes. Now, it is still HIS room and his style and his things. Just arranged nicer! Great redesign meant for a grown up 22 year old wouldn't you say? Dresser area: Oh my goodness we can see the surface finally! Since this room will also double as a guest room at times, I added a vase for flowers, a candle, and a dish for candy. I had these items, the clock, and photos already in the house in other rooms. We traded out a childhood end table for a grown up one from our room. I love this gorgeous red silk-satin shade on the white porcelain lamp...

More sketches and Fun!

Image
Hey, Hey, Hey~!! I finally have a few minutes to upload here on the blog. Wanna see some of my newer work from the last few weeks? Sorry for any glare on the pics. :) As always I love lumpy details, pattern papers and fiber. I am using my paper stash down and my accent supply as well. I have used some photos more than once here because we are making doubles for my daughter's bf. Click to enlarge any photo. Once again, I have placed the inspiring pic or sketch below the photo to show you the variety you can achieve with simple FREE sketches. The small inspiration pics come from sites like Scrapjazz gallery, Scrapbook.com gallery, Scrapbook.com sketches and the blank sketches are from designers like Becky Higgins , PageMaps, and my own little mind. LOL Be sure to check out Becky Fleck's new PageMaps book with 128 NEW Pagemaps.... I just bought it and I love the cards in the back which work so well in my PAGE KITS!! Love that. Above we have a best friends snowman LET IT S...

Layouts from Sketches

Image
Be sure to click on the photos to see dimensional details. (That's half of the fun in my work!) How do I use sketches? People have been asking me to show some of my recent work here and I am happy to do so. People are also asking me specifically just HOW do you make a sketch or layout from online or in a magazine into a finished layout of your own? Do I copy it exactly --or just in general idea? Or do I measure and fuss? Do I keep the same color schemes? Well here are a few of my recent one and two-page 12x12 layouts and their corresponding inspirations (off to the left in each photo). I don't measure and fuss. I do let the origninal inspire me in a general way. I work with whatever colors suit my photos or my mood. Or my stash in some cases! Some of the layouts look more like the starting sketch/pic than others! But that's all just where my imagination takes me. :) The above and below layout set is simular to the pic/sketch at left by Kelly Goree but I changed up the colo...
